Malik Jefferson is a 2L student at UC Law San Francisco. He was born and raised in Los Angeles, and attended the University of California Berkely where he received a bachelor’s degree in legal studies with an emphasis in economics and monetary policy. Prior to law school, Malik worked as a substitute teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District, and as a culinary instructor for several years.
As the oldest of four siblings in a low-income family, financial hardship was a regular part of Malik’s childhood. Out of both necessity and passion, these circumstances kindled his strong entrepreneurial spirit. This led him to pursue various business ventures throughout his life to help support himself and his family. His love and aptitude for entrepreneurship ultimately led him to pursue a career in Business Law. Malik spent his 1L summer at the federal reserve bank of San Francisco and will be spending his 2L summer at Gunderson Dettmer in the firm’s corporate practice group. During his 2L year he assisted low-income clients with corporate transactional matters in the Economic Empowerment Clinic and is currently externing with the fintech company Payactiv in Silicon Valley.
