CBL Annual Report 2022-2023

It was a memorable year for the UC Center for Business Law SF. We brought together scholars, practitioners, regulators, and students to focus on business law issues on a range of topics including startup matters, venture capital, financing trends, digital assets regulation, boardroom matters and courtroom disputes.

In the first half of the academic year, we hosted the CBL Lunch Speaker Series with attorneys from Orrick and Goodwin. We followed with the 5th Annual UCLA Anderson / UC Law SF Economic Forecasting and ESG program at the Historic Klamath in Pier 9, and we ended the Spring semester by exploring equity compensation challenges for private tech companies.

In the Fall Semester, we selected our third cohort of CBL Scholars — with an expanded group of three scholars– and hosted a networking event for the broader group of finalists with attorneys from Gunderson, Freshfields, Cooley and Goodwin. We also launched our first online course on crypto for lawyers, and we closed the year by hosting the third CBL Roundtable on Financial Policy & Regulation with a group of regulators, practitioners and academics sponsored by Circle, Cooley and Paul Hastings.

We are excited to continue expanding our research and programs in 2023-2024. We will also benefit from the addition of Professor Emily Strauss to the UC Law SF faculty, bolstering our business law faculty base.
